Half-HYROX event Sat Sept 12th, 2026
We had a great time hosting our first ever half-HYROX event last weekend to celebrate our 11th anniversary here at RadixGym.
We decided to join HYROX as an affiliate because they have shown to do a great job with running events, creating demand, and building an inclusive and accessible competition format.
While it does have a lot of running, HYROX also includes many of the same exercises we use on a regular basis such as burpees, lunges, and weighted carries, as well as cardio machines. It’s still very important to be strong while training HYROX because the sled push and sled pulls are quite heavy, and having to do weighted lunges and wall balls under the fatigue of an hour-plus-long exercise event requires the kind of muscular endurance that CrossFit specializes in building.
We love that there is a new and fun way to put our fitness to the test! What is the point of working so hard in the gym without USING our strength & conditioning?! And what better way to motivate yourself than to have a goal, a date, a deadline, to keep you focused?!
So we set up a circuit across both RadixGym and Prospect Lab training:
On the turf, we had the Ski Erg, Sled Push, and Sled Pulls.
In the main gym, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing Machine, Farmers Carry outside, then Lunges and Wallballs to finish it off. /
In between each round, a run around the building (just over 400m).
In total, participants ran just over 3km and finished between 35-45 minutes.
A few are training for the full HYROX event, either partner or solo, happening Oct 4th here in Toronto. For them, this was a great opportunity to try some of the equipment and get the feeling for what a race will look like, maybe where they need to spend a bit more time training beforehand.
For most of our members, it was a new challenging workout/test that we can repeat every couple of months.
The nice part was that most of the exercises were familiar and easy to pick up and scale (make harder or easier) depending on their experience and goals.
Overall it was a great test of fitness and way to showcase a fun new training style.
We’re looking forward to doing this again in the spring!
