WHY is our MURPH EVENT this WEEKEND so IMPORTANT?!

This coming Saturday at 8 am we will be hosting the Third Annual Murph Event and Fundraiser here at Radix for the Non Profit The Dream Dealer.

First off if you have no idea what Murph is let me tell you, Murph is an iconic CrossFit Workout named after

Michael Patrick “Murph” Murphy (7 May 1976 – 28 June 2005) was a United States Navy SEAL officer who was awarded the U.S. military’s highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan. He was the first member of the U.S. Navy to receive the award since the Vietnam War [1]. His other posthumous awards include the Silver Star Medal (which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor) and the Purple Heart.

Michael Murphy was born and raised in Suffolk County, New York. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with honors and dual degrees in political science and psychology. After college he accepted a commission in the United States Navy and became a United States Navy SEAL in July 2002. After participating in several War on Terrorism missions, he was killed on 28 June 2005, after his team was compromised and surrounded by Taliban forces near Asadabad, Afghanistan.

The U.S. Navy ship USS Michael Murphy, and several civilian and military buildings have been named in his honor.

The workout itself was done many time by Murph to stay in shape for his duties and that workout is
1 mile run
100 Pullups
200 Pushups
300 Squats
1 mile run
Wearing a Weighted vest or Full Tactical Gear.

We have different versions of this workout setup for Saturday so anyone at any level can do it with us. We will have a bunch of people doing it just as its written with the vest which is pretty bad ass.

But WHY? WHY put yourself through such a crazy workout, there’ plenty other easier ways to get in shape without enduring that beast of a workout designed for a Navy Seal.

The reason WHY we’re doing it on Saturday is for the kids in Haiti. The Dream Dealer was started in 2009 by my brother after returning from Haiti after the first major hurricane and earthquake that hit and destroyed everything in its path. He saw the devastation it caused, the lives that were lost, the kids who were orphaned, hungry, lost, thirsty, without shelter or medicine and knew we had to do something.

The Dream Dealer was started to help the broken, people who had no hope, to give hope and life in places there was none! What started out as helping a couple children survive has blown up into a full time House where we help 50-60 kids a day with food, water, medicine, clothes, shelter and provide funding for about 200 kids to go to school every day.

Think about the biggest problem in your life right now, I have my own in my mind right now. Now think about that tomorrow could maybe your last day, you might not have enough food or water to survive or even worse your baby didn’t have enough food or water to survive. Your problems are very minimal. These kids are literally DIEING and that’s why we do we do and try to raise money to help save them, that’s why we run 1 mile and do a bunch of exercises and run another mile cause that temporary pain doesn’t last and that money you donate goes a long long way. Yes your calves may get sore and your shoulders may hurt for a bit but you experience nothing of what these kids experience on a daily basis.

This Saturday we do it again and if you can then you should do it! Radix is buying all the tank tops for everyone so every single dollar you donate goes to those kids.
