The CrossFit GOAT Rich Froning says that no matter your ability level, you should always be training for SOMETHING
Competition gives a great reason to train and stay ready
BUT WHY?!
Firstly, when you sign up and have your name displayed on a leaderboard, it is a commitment you are making in writing that will hold you accountable for showing up for all your training days.
It adds pressure and gives you a reason to go and give your full effort.
This leads to the second reason why competition is so important: the necessity to be ready to compete will force you to train with more purpose and intention than ever before.
It will expand your focus to include all the other essential elements that contribute to performance, such as good recovery and nutrition.
Thirdly, competition will change you and force you to become a better person.
It will expose the things that are a detriment to you both in your training and life, and will push you to learn your lesson.
And finally, it is FUN and EXCITING to put yourself out there, try new things and DO things that would have scared you in the past!
We only get one life on earth, so use it well and try new things that will push you to be greater!!
Now is a good time to reflect; what’s holding you back from signing up for that event? What moments of adversity have pushed you to be greater in the past? Where will you go from here?
