So the Groundhog saw his shadow today, of course, it’s no surprise to expect six more weeks of winter after the weather we’ve been having!
So today we’re sharing our Top 3 Tips to help you WIN the Winter and thrive, not just survive, in this snowy season.
Yes, it’s hard to be motivated to do ANYTHING when it’s -14 degrees. You know it’s cold when even my kids don’t want to play in the snow, and they’ll go outside rain or shine, day or night hahaha.
January is a TOUGH month to be motivated in. It’s cold. It’s dark.
We put all this pressure on ourselves because of the “New Year” when really the Spring or Fall are much more appropriate times to be setting goals and smashing records.
However, if we want to live a healthy lifestyle, we don’t get to go hibernate for the next 6 weeks like Punxsutawney Phil.
So what can we do?
Everything in life is always EASIER if you can embrace a positive mindset and enjoy the JOURNEY rather than waiting for the sun to shine, literally or metaphorically lol.
If you can find a few ways to make the season more enjoyable and lean into the things we CAN control, it takes the focus of the things we can’t like the weather!
Check out our Top 3 Tips to WIN the Winter below!
- Move every day.
If it’s above -10 degrees, you can go for a walk!
Or, do a 20 minute workout in your living room.
You can also be crazy like me and do an outdoor workout on the back porch -> watch here!!
A recent study showed that just 90 minutes per week of STRENGTH TRAINING can slow biological aging by nearly 4 years!
And that INCLUDED bodyweight resistance training such as:
– Lunges
– Squats
– Pushups
So you don’t even NEED to use weights (although we highly recommend it, of course!)
Our WIN the Winter Handbook has a week’s worth of simple strength & conditioning circuits you can do anywhere with minimal equipment, click THIS LINK to download it now! - Eat Warm Foods.
Cold salads are not appealing right now, let’s be real.
A warm hearty bowl, or even just throwing your fresh cooked meat & veg onto a bowl of greens, will make it easier to eat healthy.
Comfort foods are comforting because they’re warm and salty!
You can make ANY meal a comfort meal!
Get a Mini Crock Pot to bring your lunch in, or make some homemade bone broth and pack a thermos to sip on instead of a 2nd or 3rd coffee in the afternoon.
Check out this covid-era video of us making bone broth!!
3. Do something FUN every day.
The options are endless:
– Learn a new hobby or pick up an old one, like doing a puzzle or knitting a scarf
– Take up a new sport, like snowboarding, swimming, or pickleball.
– Visit your friends @radixgym for a workout and earning the CONSISTENCY CLUB award for attending 3 workouts per week!
Why is this important?!
As we talk about in the WIN the Winter Handbook, learning new things and practicing gratitude are healthy MINDSETS that go along with healthy eating and exercise.
You’re only as fit as your limiting factor, and sometimes that’s our attitude.
So let’s flip the script and WIN the Winter together!!
